Every person is unique. We differ in body types, experience, lifestyle, history and personality. Success begins with acknowledgement of the uniqueness of the individual, with an honest assessment of the point of beginning, and with a realistic goal.

Training is simply following a well-conceived plan to prepare for realization of a goal. The goal may be performance in an athletic event or series of events. The goal may be to address health concerns. The goal may be to spend quality time with your spouse or friends in a healthy activity.

Training does not require you to go fast or go long, although you may choose to challenge yourself to improve in those areas. How fast you run is primarily a reflection of your physical capabilities, the vast majority of which are genetically determined and only marginally influenced by training. The true measure of yourself is not the speed or duration you can walk, run or cycle, but your ability to establish challenging goals, to adopt a progressive training program, to test the acquired skills, abilities and knowledge, and to reassess and set new goals. The process is what makes you a winner!

Get started, set some realistic goals, gain an understanding of the different phases of training and types of workouts, and join the training club Feet in Motion for guidance in establishing a plan and for encouragement to see the plan through to success.
